West Suburban PADS raised almost $80,000 at their Have-a-Heart Benefit at Brookfield Zoo on Feb. 23. Over 300 Have-a-Heart guests enjoyed a private showing of the Habitat Africa exhibit, a performance by the Maywood Fine Arts Association, a Silent Auction with more than 150 items, and a sneak preview of Beyond Shelter, a film about PADS by Oak Parkers Pat and Joan Allen. Congressman Danny K. Davis served as the master of ceremonies for the evening.

Major event sponsors included Park National Bank, Lyons Paint and Decorating Stores, Risch Family Foundation, Sachem Company, Community Bank of Oak Park and River Forest, Everett Solutions and St. Edmund Parish. The funds raised through Have-a-Heart will support West Suburban PADS' four main program areas: emergency shelter; daytime support center and case management; supportive housing, including transitional housing for the employed homeless and permanent supportive housing for the homeless mentally ill; and homeless prevention for those at imminent risk of homelessness due to eviction or foreclosure.
