Being a school board member in Oak Park can be a difficult and at times thankless job. Anyone who runs for this position must have a passion for children and education. As a friend and neighbor of Kathy Tortorice I have witnessed first hand her passion for both.

I have known Kathy since coaching her daughter in T-Ball eight years ago. She has been my sons den leader for the last three years in Cub Scouts. Kathy's passion for children, and for whats's best for them, is evident to those of us who have had the pleasure of interacting with her on a regular basis. This passion, combined with her intellect and ideas, will serve her well as a member of the District 97 school board. She is active in both the elementary schools and the middle schools, and is knowledgeable and informed about the problems and challenges faced by our schools. She also knows what is working and where the opportunity for improvement exists.

I encourage all Oak Park voters to vote for Kathy Tortorice for District 97 school board. If given the opportunity she will be a valuable addition to the board. I am confident that Kathy will be a strong leader who will be able work within the board to ensure a strong education for our children, while at the same time keeping an eye on fiscal responsibilities of the job. As a friend and neighbor I know she will work hard to do what's best for our community.
