2005 Wednesday Journal Endorsements
We enthusiastically endorse Mark Coe, Margaret Horstman and Leonard Soffer for the River Forest Library Board. These are all sharp candidates, with the background and experience to keep the library moving in a positive direction. The library's collection is outdated?#34;these three even pointed to a "cart of shame," which included tax self-help books from the 1960s, and others, that haven't been checked out in decades. The library is also in need of capital improvements, and is facing heading to voters for a referendum in the coming years.

These candidates bring a wide range of talents to the board and strike us as enthusiastic about meeting the challenges ahead.

? Joan Cusack is certainly a nice person with the best of intentions. However, we don't agree with her that the library's collection is in great shape. We were also concerned that she couldn't comment on some specific financial issues because they weren't clearly explained in meeting minutes. Though we don't dismiss new candidates because of a lack of experience, we are concerned that Cusack just hasn't done enough homework.
