After seven years serving as executive director of the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation, Sophia Lloyd is saying goodbye to Oak Park and hello to Toledo, Ohio come June 1, as she becomes the director of Job and Family Services in Lucas County, Ohio.
Toledo is a place Lloyd calls home. She lived there for about 20 years before moving to Oak Park.
"I'm passionate about community," said Lloyd.
That passion is evident by her long list of accomplishments around town.
Under her direction, the Community Foundation has become "dedicated to providing community funding, supporting non-profit excellence and encouraging philanthropic leadership," according to a news release.
The foundation raised over $2 million with matching funds from the Grand Victoria Foundation. The two organizations created a large endowment to support Communityworks.
It was also under her community engagement efforts that the foundation was essential in the creation of the Dominican University Community Leadership Program, the Future Philanthropist Program and Planet Green, Oak Park and River Forest's environmental sustainability plan.
"It has been a true honor to work for Oak Park and River Forest because it is a community that is responsive to community needs," said Lloyd, noting that her new position will give her a similar opportunity to work with individuals in need.
"If I could, I would like to make an informal shout-out," said Lloyd. "I've met some really authentic people. Two of those people are Bill Planek and Dan Haley — always being honest, providing feedback and being passionate about what matters in the community. Both individuals I would get advice from; they're good people."
Lloyd's last day at the Foundation is May 14.
