Oak Parkers Jacob Edwards (12) and Trevionoa Mathews (11) were honored as 2008 All Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA team members at a West Cook YMCA Youth Basketball League ceremony in January. Edwards and Mathews were nominated for their skill level, contribution to team success, ability to make their teammates better, positive response to coaching, strong leadership traits, respectful treatment of officials and opponents, good sportsmanship, strong commitment to practice, and on being solid students and positive members of the community.
Oak Park resident Susan Carroll has been named editor of the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, the professional publication of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses. JNN is published six times a year, has global circulation and includes articles from authors practicing in the United States and nine foreign countries. Carroll received her bachelor's degree in English Literature and Journalism from the University of Iowa and a master's degree in Nursing from Rush University.
The Village of Oak Park has received the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget. In order to receive the budget award, the village had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The budget document had to be rated "proficient" as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.
Mary E. Gregg of River Forest was named to the Dean's List for the fall quarter of this academic year at Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University. Students on the Dean's List have a grade point average of at least 3.7/4.0.
Susan Fruth of Oak Park is serving as a Millikin University Admission Student Ambassador for the current academic year. Ambassadors are nominated by admissions counselors to offer tours to prospective students and their families on Campus Preview Days. The ambassadors also host overnight visits by prospective students. Fruth is a Junior Music major.
1987 Oak Park and River Forest High School graduate Anna Palucci was recently named director of clinical services at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago. Palucci, who is a licensed acupuncturist and is nationally board-certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbology, has a private clinical practice in Oak Park. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harrington College in Chicago and is a 2006 graduate of Pacific College with a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine.
Oak Parker Peggy Vicars recently received the Illinois Therapeutic Recreation Excellence in Service Award at the annual Illinois Parks and Recreation Association Conference. Vicars, a social worker at Prairie Oaks School in Berwyn, was nominated for the award by the West Suburban Special Recreation Association.
Family Service and Mental Health Center of Oak Park and River Forest honored community partners at the agency's 109th Annual Meeting this past November at Holley Court Terrace in Oak Park. Joining the board for 2007-2010 are Yvette Bouchard, John Poplett, and Elizabeth "Betsy" Ritzman.
