The Fenwick boys water polo team kicked off their 2012-13 campaign with a 10-7 win over Loyola. Matt Farmer scored seven goals for the Friars, who took a 5-2 lead at halftime despite having to endure some aggressive play by the Ramblers.

Loyola was hit with eight ejections in the game, while Fenwick was only give one with 33 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Ejections are usually given if a player is being too aggressive.

This week the Friars gear up to host their own Dan Lynch Tournament. They'll take on cross-town rival OPRF on Friday at 4 p.m.

OPRF boys water polo

The OPRF boys water polo jumped off to a favorable start to their season that included winning the Charger Challenge Invitational on Saturday. The Huskies battled Hinsdale Central to a 6-2 victory in the title game.

In the first five games of the season, Nathan Pimental is leading the Huskies in scoring with 24 goals. Mark Hallman has 10 goals and a team-high 21 steals.

"Our defense has been our backbone so far only allowing 4.4 goals a game, which is what we need all year long if we plan to be successful," said OPRF head coach John Rapp. "We still have a ton of polo left and a lot to work on, but I like how we started the year. Now we need to get ready for York on Wednesday and a very tough field at the Dan Lynch Tournament this weekend."
