Ron Lawless has withdrawn from the race for the District 200 Board of Education, citing a new job that will require more time than he would be able to devote to it and serving on the board.

Lawless said the new job will allow him to work nationwide to help create a health care program for all Americans.

"It's the opportunity of a lifetime," Lawless said. "I couldn't let this opportunity pass by."

Although he filed necessary withdrawal papers, his name will appear on the April 5 ballot, Lawless said.

"I encourage people not to vote for me," Lawless said, adding that he would not nor could not accept the position if he did receive enough votes.

He did not endorse other candidates, but said he supported all of the them. Jacques Conway and Dee Millard will challenge incumbents Valerie Fisher, John Rigas and Paul Wolfman for the four open seats on the board.
