Fenwick's trip to the Class AA Dual Team State Wrestling Meet on Saturday was short-lived, but not without fanfare. The Friars lost 26-22 to Rockton (Hononegah) in a hard-fought matchup that saw three ties at the State quarterfinals held at Northern Illinois University's Convocation Center in DeKalb. The Friars won six of the 14 matches.

Nick Bertucci, of the 135-pound weight class who took home Fenwick's first State Individual championship the week prior, forced a fall on Joe Meador at 3:51 to grab the Friars' first win on Saturday. Fenwick took a 9-6 lead overall when Eric Gough (145-pound weight class) won his bout 9-6 over Bryce Givens.

Rockford then won two straight matches and grabbed the lead. Billy Barnhisal (171) cut the deficit to 13-12 with a 5-3 win over Adam Latella.

The Friars took the lead back when Eric Dardanes (189) defeated Matt Nimmer 8-6, and Dan Kurtz (215) won by major decision 14-5 over Paul Sutkay.

Rockford won four out of the next five matches to take a 22-19 lead, but Fenwick's Pat Hanlon (119) tied things up again with a 6-3 win over Kevin Eddy.

Rockford's Andy Neyer defeated Marty Erfort 16-7 in the 125-pound weight class to put his team on top.

On Feb. 22, the Friars defeated New Trier 36-21 in the Lake View Sectional final, and Maine South 40-27 in the semifinal.
