Context missing in smoking ban quote

I think a point of clarification is needed. I read the quote that was attributed to me in last week's WEDNESDAY JOURNAL article, "D97 board passes on taking smoking ban position."

It appears that the writer missed the context of the discussion and made an assumption [that he placed in brackets] that was incorrect. To be clear on the context and what was said, I reviewed the board meeting tapes. That night before the board was a resolution that addressed smoke-free environments. Given the purview of the board, our school buildings are indeed already smoke-free. Therefore, I did not see what would be accomplished by having [another D97 resolution] that reaffirmed this stance. Other board members were in agreement and we did not take action on this D97 resolution.

Thanks for allowing me to make this correction and for your interest in what we do. As always, it is my pleasure to serve our community.
