Eugene M. Carlson, a resident of Oak Park for over 40 years, died at home on Feb. 25, 2012. Born in Peoria on Dec. 8, 1934 to the late Martin L. and Lillian J. Carlson, he graduated from Peoria High School, the oldest public high school in Illinois, in 1953 and received his B.A. in History from Bradley University in 1958.

Mr. Carlson worked in the accounting field for many years, most recently for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Chicago, retiring in 2005. He had a deep bass voice, loved to sing and was a member of various choral groups including the Normennenes Singing Society, the Chicago Swedish Glee Club, Oak Park Concert Chorale, Oak Park and River Forest Symphony Chorus, and the Mac Dowell Artists Association.

His love of singing coincided with his love of travel and took him to Europe with the various singing groups. He was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest.

Eugene Carlson is survived by Barbara J. Carlson, his wife of 44 years; his siblings, Evelyn (the late Lloyd) McCormick, Ellen (John) Welk, and Marilyn Carlson; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3 from 10 a.m. until time of service, 11 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, 7300 Division St., River Forest.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Lutheran Church are appreciated. Arrangements were handled by Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home.
