Oak Park and River Forest police reports Feb. 17-21

Down by sweet tooth

A 42-year-old male was arrested in the first block of Harrison Street at a Shell gas station for having attempted to steal multiple pieces of miscellaneous candy worth $12.61 at 9:47 p.m. 

The suspect was held in lieu of bond.

 Burglary

Someone gained entrance to a closet in the common front stairwell at a residence on the 200 block of North Scoville Avenue between 11 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 18 and stole a red and white 10-speed bicycle. The theft was estimated at $750. 

A victim reported witnessing a black male between the ages of 20 and 25 with black braided hair and weighing about 130 lbs. entering the victim's silver 2005 Chrysler and taking a tan purse between 5 and 5:33 p.m. on Feb. 21 on the first block of Harrison Street at a Shell gas station. The total loss was $12.

 Theft

A woman's Chase debit card was reported stolen from her purse at Oak Park Public Library on the 800 block of Lake Street between 3:30 and 5 p.m. on Feb. 17. The card was cancelled and no loss was reported.

Two packages delivered by UPS were reported stolen from the foyer of a building on the 1100 block of South Kenilworth Avenue between 2:12 p.m. on Feb. 18 and 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 19. Estimated loss is $61.

An unknown person stole two UPS packages from the front of a vestibule area at a building on the 100 block of South Maple Avenue. Police report the crime happened sometime between 5 p.m. on Feb. 18 and 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 20. The estimated loss was $160.

 DUI

A 52-year-old man was arrested in the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue on Feb. 18 at about 2:23 a.m. after an officer noticed him asleep inside a running vehicle. The man had the odor of alcohol coming from his breath, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, according to police. He also was cited for improper parking on a roadway.

 Drug Possession

A juvenile Oak Park resident was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, when high school officials found the bag of marijuana in his possession on Feb. 18 at 1:47 p.m. The juvenile was later released to his parents.

 Child Endangerment 

A 19-year-old woman was taken into custody on Feb. 18 in the 800 block of South Boulevard for endangering the life and health of a child. The endangerment allegedly occurred on Jan. 5, 2015.

Apparently, someone forgot to tell Timothy about WJ's long standing policy of omitting race from crime reports.
