I see no bigotry in the Andersons’ experiment with shopping in solely African American-owned stores. [The Andersons’ Ebony Experiment, news, Jan. 21] What struck me immediately the first time I read the story was the incredible carbon footprint of this experiment. I hope the data gathered is worth driving to the South Side for groceries once a week. Is public transportation part of the plan? It should be. Climate doesn’t discriminate, and we all have to share the planet.

Many Oak Parkers are involved in helping us all become more sustainability-minded. It does not sound like the Andersons contacted any of them about making this experiment more carbon-neutral. I hope the Andersons have a post-experiment commitment to walk, ride a bike, take public transportation, buy carbon off-sets or otherwise atone for the carbon footprint this year-long experiment is bound to leave.
