Alito will vote to expand unchecked presidential powers

The Alito nomination is part of the president's drive for unchecked power. Bush is counting on Alito to defend his attempts to detain citizens without trial, torture at will, and spy on our private conversations. Alito's record shows that he would dramatically expand the president's power to trample these and other basic rights.

The United States is the best country in the world to live in now, but so many, including President Bush, are trying to get their non-American versions of govenment into power.

We need to restore and reinforce our American democracy, not dismantle it piece by piece.
