Fenwick used its unique mix of experience and talented youthfulness to rally to a 60-40 win over Lyons Township in the first round of the LaGrange Sectional held at Lyons on Monday night.
Brittanny Johnson, the Friars' only starting senior, led her team with 26 points, while sophomore Devereaux Peters finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and four blocks. Samantha Woods, also a sophomore, chipped in 10 points for Fenwick.
The Friars (31-2) got off to a slow start, trailing 19-15 after the first quarter. But a 12-0 run to kick-off the second prompted a lead change and Fenwick never looked back.
Mallory Heydorn led Lyons (24-8) with 15 points, while Colleen Caplice finished with 13.
Fenwick trounced Argo 73-29 for its 10th straight regional title on Friday night in Oak Park.
Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Friars in the lopsided victory. Peters finished with 10 points, six steals and four blocks.
Jackson finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Fenwick also smashed Nazareth 79-33 in the regional semifinal on Feb. 15.
Johnson scored 21 points, while Jackson and Woods chipped in nine apiece.
Depending on the outcome of Tuesday night's Game 2 of the sectional (after deadline), the Friars will face either Trinity or Riverside-Brookfield in the sectional title game on Thursday (7:30 p.m.). Fenwick downed Trinity (20-10) on its home court early in the season, and hosted Riverside-Brookfield to a 77-37 thumping on Dec. 16. The Bulldogs' top scorers, Meghan Hutchens and Katelyn McCloskey, managed just eight points apiece against the Friars.
