Congratulations to Trinity guard Annie McKenna, the Wednesday Journal's Athlete of the Week sponsored by Midtown Athletic Club.

The 5-foot-7-inch sophomore scored 25 points to power the Blazers past Marist 69-46 on Saturday. McKenna also netted 16 points in a 51-19 win over Oak Park and River Forest in a nonconference game last week.

"We just tried to keep our focus and win the game for the seniors," McKenna said about the win over the Huskies. "We tried to tune everything else out with all the excitement before the game. The key was just to play our game."

DePaul-bound Lauren Prochaska and McKenna lead the Blazers (22-5) into the Class 4A playoffs this week as the No. 2 seed in the Hinsdale South Sectional.

I've been waiting this season to see our niece, Annie McKenna, named Athlete of the Week. In addition to being a great basketball player, Annie is a great student and a generous and lovely young woman.
