Hearl Bacon, 81, Army Veteran, U.S. Dept. of Education retiree

Hearl Bacon, 81, of Oak Park, died on Feb. 10, 2014.  Born in Concord, now Knoxville, Tenn., he attended Concord Elementary School, Austin High School, and served in the United States Army.  After an honorable discharge, he completed a degree from Knoxville College and earned a Masters degree in History from the University of Tennessee.  He moved to Chicago and began a career in education and retired from the U.S. Department of Education in 2006 where he had been employed as a Senior Institutional Review Specialist.

Mr. Bacon lived with his wife of 48 years, Jeanette (nee Anderson) in Oak Park from 1974 until his death.  He is survived by his children, Alaina (Kermit) Johnson and Jason Bacon; grandchildren, Alexander, Zachary, Gabriel and Karena.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Limon Sr. and Jeannette Bacon.  Services will be celebrated in Knoxville.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
