The OPRF girls basketball team won a share of the West Suburban (Silver) Conference by trouncing Proviso West 57-36 in Hillside on Friday night.
Shelby Cozette led OPRF (18-12, 9-3) to its first conference title since 2003 by scoring 19 points. The senior guard made 10-of-12 free throws in the game, including eight in the fourth quarter.
Stekara Hall added a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Huskies rallied in the second half behind her 12 points and Camille Scott's nine rebounds and four blocks. Raven Hurley added seven points in the win for the Huskies.
OPRF shares the title with York, who defeated Glenbard West 48-46 Friday night to also close out the regular season with a 9-3 record.
"We'll be trying to keep everyone healthy and happy this week as the season winds down," said OPRF head coach Bob Biggins after the win.
OPRF opens the Class 4A playoffs against the host of the Hoffman Estates Regional tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 16). A win could pit the Huskies against cross-town rival and No. 1 seed Fenwick on Friday in the regional title game (7:30 p.m.).
"OPRF is not the same team they were at the beginning of the year," said Fenwick head coach Dave Power, whose Friars closed out the regular season with losses to Marist and Marian Catholic last week. "They have improved tremendously and we certainly won't be looking past anyone at this point."
Fenwick downed OPRF 78-38 on Nov. 18 in its season opener.
The Huskies began last week by upending St. Ignatius 69-52 after being down as much as 17 points in the first half. Seven different OPRF players scored in a third-period rally that put the Huskies up by two heading into the fourth. OPRF outscored St. Ignatius 20-5 in the final quarter to close out the win.
Caroline Kelty scored 20 points to lead the Huskies, who made seven three-pointers in the contest. Hall finished with 14 points, while Hurley added nine and Scott eight.
