An unknown male offender was discovered to have stolen $50 in cash from the customer service desk at the 7501 North Ave. location of Dominick's Finer Foods, after tricking an attendant into giving him incorrect change. The theft occurred on Jan. 22, but was discovered later on a security video and reported on Jan. 25.
Driver cited for striking a pedestrian
Carl Matarazzo, 29, was given several citations for striking a pedestrian as she crossed North Ave., near the North and Monroe intersection on Jan. 24. The victim was transported to Rush Oak Park Hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Carjacked vehicle recovered
A 2006 Volkswagen Jetta, hijacked by two unknown male offenders from 120 S. Maple on Jan. 26, was recovered at 437 E. Pershing in Chicago on Jan. 28. The vehicle was reported as drivable, and no suspects were apprehended. The hijacking occurred when the female car owner was told to turn over her keys by the one of the offenders, who alluded to having a gun. The victim tossed her keys at the suspects and they drove away in an unknown direction. There were no injuries.
An unknown offender broke into an apartment, located on the 1100 block of Washington, between Dec. 22, 2010 and Jan. 25, 2011, and removed a Sony 32-inch flat screen television, the title and a key to the victim's vehicle. The suspect then removed the victim's light blue 2009 Volkswagen Passat, bearing Illinois license plates H872479 from village lot Y2. Estimated loss is $35,200.
An unknown offender entered a black Honda CRV, parked at a location on the 900 block of Clinton on Jan. 29. The suspect then used the automatic garage door opener in the vehicle to enter a garage at the same location, and removed a men's black Trek bicycle. Estimated loss is $800.
Three unknown offenders removed a Samsung cell phone, a Zune MP3 player, and a wallet from a victim on the 700 block of S. Austin. The first offender, described as being 20 years of age, 5-feet-6, of muscular build, stated that he had a gun.
Three unknown offenders punched a victim in the face, pushed him to the ground, kicked him and removed an iPod Touch from his pocket, after the victim exited a bus at Oak Park and Harvard on the evening of Jan. 26. The subjects were last seen heading westbound on Harvard. Estimated loss was $200.
Burglary from auto
Someone removed a Pioneer CD radio from a 1999 Buick Regal parked at 3 Erie Court in the afternoon on Jan. 25. Estimated loss was $125.
Someone broke the window of a blue 2005 Infinity, parked on the street on the 1100 block of S. Cuyler in the afternoon on Jan. 25 and removed a silver Dell laptop and a purse containing a Sprint cell phone and several credit cards. Total loss was estimated at $1,340.
Someone broke the window of a green 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, parked on the 100 block of N. Taylor, Jan. 30-31, and removed a Garmin Nuvi GPS unit. Estimated loss was $350.
Someone broke the window of a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, parked in a parking lot on the 400 block of S. Cuyler. on Jan. 31 and removed a canvas bag, containing miscellaneous clothing and make-up products. Estimated damage and loss was $500.
Henry Cruz, 24, of the 1200 block of S. Ridgeland Berwyn, was arrested for striking a victim in the face with a closed fist at a location on the 800 block of S. Oak Park on the morning of Jan. 30.
An unknown offender was involved in a verbal argument with two women at the BP gas station at 6119 North Ave. on Jan. 31. The suspect slapped both female victims in the face, grabbed one by the neck and began to choke her before fleeing the scene in a gold colored vehicle with an Illinois license plate reading A445317.
An unknown offender removed a silver Blackberry Curve smart phone and charger from the Oak Park Senior Services Office, located at 418 S. Oak Park Ave., on Jan. 25. Estimated loss is $429.99. Jose Vega, 23, of the 1500 block of S. 59th Ave. in Cicero, was later arrested for the theft.
Four blank checks were removed from a checkbook in a home located on the 200 block of N. Marion between Jan. 18 and 24 by an unknown offender. The current estimated loss is $1,000. Christopher A. Duncan, 25, a resident at the same address, was arrested on charges of theft on Jan. 28.
An unknown offender described as being between 30 and 40 years old, 6-feet-1, of medium build, removed a female victim's purse while she was walking on the 1100 block of North Blvd. on Jan 29. The suspect fled eastbound from the scene with the purse, which contained a red Sony digital camera, miscellaneous credit cards and an ID. Estimated loss is $335.
An unknown offender removed a black Burton jacket containing a brown wallet, credit cards, and ID from a locker in a location on the 1100 block of Lake. Estimated loss is $400.
An unknown offender removed a fourth-generation iPod Touch from a woman's purse while she attended a dance competition at Dominican University on Jan. 22. Estimated loss is $312.
Fortino Delgado, 29, of the 1500 block of N. Lee Blvd. in Berkeley, was arrested on the 300 block of S. Austin on Jan. 24 on several charges, including driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Delgado also had three active Cook County sheriff's warrants for traffic and assault.
Charles Bell, 57, of the 400 block of 9th Ave. in Maywood was arrested Jan. 26 on the 100 block of Randolph for felony driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and transportation of open alcohol.
Nicholas Moore, 29, of the 1400 block of S. 18th Ave. in Maywood, was involved in an accident at 306 Madison on Jan. 28 and arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, driving without a valid license, and driving without insurance.
Eric Arreola, 24, of the 1500 block of S. 61st Ave. in Cicero, was arrested at a location on the 600 block of Fillmore on Jan. 29 and charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving without a valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of two accidents.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Oak Park and River Forest police departments from January 24 to January 31, 2011. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
