The OPRF Huskie Lightweights completed their 10-2 season as champions of the Big 10 Elite Conference of the Tri County Youth Football League. The Huskies avenged their only regular season loss with a 7-0 defeat of Huntley in the conference championship game, the fourth consecutive shut out by the Huskie defense. This marked the second Big 10 conference title won by OPRF since entering the TCYFL in 2003.
The victory gave the Huskies a birth in the Super Bowl against Tri-Cities for the Big 10 championship.
In rainy conditions, Tri-Cities jumped ahead early with a 55-yard touchdown run on their first play from scrimmage and eventually took an 8-0 lead. The Huskies responded with a 45-yard run, off a fake reverse, by Mike Morocco to cut the score to 8-6.
Following two long drives, the offense just missed on potential go-ahead touchdown passes. Tri-Cities connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter and added another late score to secure their 22-6 victory.
This season, the Huskies offense featured a balanced attack with the strong running of backs Morocco, Jack Rogalla, Joe Donlan, Tony Stapleton and Amir Arif and a passing game led by QB Joe Romano. Opening the holes was the line of Rhys Miles, Zach Draus, Brock Friesen, Joe DiSomma and Sean Zdeb. The swarming defense was led by Xavier Vergara, Nick Poilevey, Nate Schuler, Grant Miller and Ricky Fleming.
