With at least 12 representatives from Division I colleges in attendance at the Proviso West Holiday tournament on opening night Monday, the Fenwick boys' basketball team didn't exactly show off its best stuff. But the recruiters may have been looking elsewhere anyway.

The Friars (7-3), one of only a few teams in the prestigious tournament not ranked in the Top 20 in the state, were handed a 74-50 wallop by undefeated and No. 4-ranked St. Joseph in the opening round.

Six-foot senior Tony Freeman put on quite a display for those in attendance, scoring 19 points with six assists and four steals to lead the Chargers.

Kelvin Johnson led Fenwick with 15 points.

The Friars took on Whitney Young Tuesday afternoon (after deadline) in Round 2. A win would advance them to play either Harlan or New Trier today (Wednesday) at 11:30 a.m.

Huskies down Danville
The OPRF boys' basketball team opened the Pontiac Holiday tournament with a 44-35 victory over Danville. Robert Strzemp led the Huskies (7-2) with 21 points and nine rebounds.

No. 1 Friars steamroll
The  Fenwick girls' basketball team crushed Streamwood 69-26 in the opening round of the Dundee-Crown Holiday tournament on Monday. The No. 1-ranked Friars (14-0) were led by Brittanny Johnson's 20 points. Andrea DiCanio chipped in 10 points for Fenwick.

Marshall leads OPRF
Brittney Marshall's 20 points led the Huskies to a 58-46 win over Highland Park  in the opening round of the Mundelein tournament on Monday.

Kate Corkle added nine points for the Huskies, who took a 28-23 lead at halftime.
