Last summer saw the arrival of new leadership at the River Forest Library, School District 90, and the River Forest Fire Department. Marlene Kamm, who took over as District 90 Superintendent, Dawn Bussey, who became the River Forest Library's head librarian, and new Fire Chief Jim Eggert replaced predecessors with long tenures. Kamm, who came from the Skokie District 65 ½, assumed her post in July, replacing Tyra Manning.
In June the River Forest Library Board of Trustees unanimously approved the hiring of Bussey, a former Schaumburg librarian who holds a Masters degree in Library and Informational Science from Rosary, now Dominican, University. Bussey took the reigns August 1, replacing controversial interim Librarian Mary Jane Kepner, who replaced longtime director Susan Hanes in January.
In mid-September James Eggert took over as the River Forest Fire Department's new chief. Eggert had served as chief of the Tri-State Fire Protection District for the past 10 years, where he rose through the ranks after starting as a firefighter in 1978. Eggert replaced 30 year veteran Chief Russ Nummer, who retired August 15, following a 30 year career served entirely with the River Forest Fire Department.
