Recent articles on the upcoming village elections illustrate competing views of politics. I see one as elitist?#34;elect the most qualified and leave all the decisions to them. The other view is that well qualified officials can still benefit from hearing from you and me because, first, they aren't the repository of all knowledge and second, they need to hear how the shoe rubs us.
In addition, running as an independent politician isn't necessarily good or bad.
But demeaning those who run in political parties is just the old politics of name-calling with a pleasant disingenuous face on it.
Personally I like the New Leadership Coalition which has a vision and is articulating a direction for the village. I think this is so much better than the stale old idea of just selecting "qualified candidates." I want candidates both qualified and taking a stand on what they think will improve the village.
Check the web site www.newleadershipcoalition.org to see if you don't want to back candidates working to implement the platform articulated there?#34;a platform that was developed in a series of public meetings with broad participation.
