DTOP doesn't receive TIF funds

With all the partner agency funding references of recent, a misperception of Downtown Oak Park as receiving TIF funds from the Village of Oak Park has been perpetuated in various newspaper articles.

For clarification, the Downtown Oak Park Business Association is completely self-funded. The property owners within the downtown business district are levied an additional real estate tax, referred to as a special service assessment. All funding received through the Village of Oak Park, whether represented as either SSA Funds or TIF funds is as a result of this self imposed assessment.

Our organization takes pride in the fact that we are totally self funded, and enjoy continued member support in the extensive marketing and management activities which those members financially support.

Editor's Note: In its coverage of the village's funding of partner agencies over the last year, WEDNESDAY JOURNAL has not once printed that Downtown Oak Park receives TIF funding. We regret any errors made in years past.
