Huskies grapple to first at HC tourney

Team crowns five champs in field of 25 teams

The OPRF wrestling team continued to dominate last week by winning the Hinsdale Central Rex Whitlach Tournament outright by 8.5 points.

The Huskies racked up five first-place finishers to hold off powerhouse Sandburg, including Matt Rundell (120), Larry Early (132), Johnny Gahagan (145), Davonte Mahomes (160) and Joey Ariola (182). Gahagan defeated Sandburg's Alante Walker 13-3.

OPRF's Isaiah White took second at 126 pounds, while Kamal Bey (152) and Andre Lee (195) finished third in their respective weight classes. Sandburg was without No. 1 seed Bill Gore (220) due to an illness.

The Huskies finished with a score of 286.5 in the field of 25 schools, while Sandburg rounded out second with 278.
