Fenwick wrestling makes strides
The Friars went 2-1 in a quad against Gordon Tech, Bishop McNamara and Mt. Carmel on Saturday.
Fenwick overtook Gordon Tech 69-30 by winning nine divisions, including Emerson Harris (126), Ryan Sanchez (138), Ben Uphues (145), Tony Triggiano (152), Jim Wise (160), Mike Kozyra (170), Dubem Ikedionwu (182), Oliver Goldman (195) and Nick Sacramento (220).
Jake Echeverri (120), Harris, Uphues, Triggiano, Wise, Kozyra, Ikedionwu, Goldman, and Sacramento all secured wins in Fenwick's 57-30 victory over Bishop Mac.
Only Kozyra and Ikedionwu managed wins against powerhouse Mt. Carmel, who handed the Friars a 64-9 loss.
"Overall, it was a pretty good weekend for us," said Fenwick head coach Chris Ruffino, whose team also fell 47-24 to Jacobs on Friday night but was forced to forfeit three weights due to injuries. "Considering our group of kids, very young, they continue to improve and win the matches that they are supposed to."
