Oak Park police have developed significant leads during their search for a man in his mid-20s who reportedly sexually assaulted a 49-year-old woman last week in the 200 block of North Oak Park Avenue.
The woman was walking to her car shortly before 7 p.m. Dec. 7 when the offender pushed her to the ground in the rear gangway stairwell off the alley, said Oak Park Police Commander LaDon Reynolds. He placed his left hand over her mouth, reached under her skirt with his right hand and grabbed her, according to a police report.
The woman bit the offender's hand and began to kick and scream. The offender fled towards Oak Park Avenue and then eastbound on Ontario Street, the report said.
Reynolds said police are following up on the leads. Police do not believe at this point the attack is related to a string of robberies in April where women were grabbed around the neck in the same area of the village.
