Marilyn B. Hammer (nee Brown), 82, died on Dec. 1, 2012. Born on Dec. 22, 1929, she graduated from Mundelein College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama. She enjoyed a brief but successful career as a fashion model for the Patricia Vance Modeling Agency & Charm School. She also taught fashion modeling and charm at the agency and in evening classes at Carl Schurz High School.
She became a teacher in the Chicago Public School system and taught in several elementary schools for 29 years. She was a skilled and much beloved teacher who earned superior ratings every year. After retiring in 1990, she enjoyed choral singing and reading, and she was a daily Mass attendee and communicant.
Marilyn Hammer is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert J. Hammer; her children, Colleen Hammer, Blane (Michelle) Hammer; her grandchildren, Justin, Ellis and Dane Hammer, and Steve Mathew and Lillian Jane Hammer; her sister-in-law, Helen (Arthur) Wolf; and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her children, Steven and Cathleen Ann; her parents, Frank and Lillian Brown; her brother, Rev. Thomas L. Brown; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy (Dr. John) DeMarco.
Visitation was held at Salerno's Galewood Chapel in Chicago, and a funeral Mass was celebrated on Dec. 5 at St. Giles Church in Oak Park.
