Robert J. Williams, 59, a devoted husband, father and grandfather from River Forest, died Nov. 28, 2004.
Mr. Williams was born Sept. 26, 1945, in Chicago, where he lived until 1952 when his family moved to Taylor Street in Oak Park. He attended the former Hawthorne School and graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1963. For many years, he was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Oak Park.
He attended Milikin University, where he met his wife of 36 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Kraakevik Williams. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in sociology.
Mr. Williams was a former member of the Cambrien Benevolent Society, which allowed him to help preserve his Welsh heritage, which he loved so much. His true passion was his family, especially his granddaughters, Catherine, 4, and Annabel, 1, who were the light of his life.
Robert Williams is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughter, Amy (David) Johnson; his granddaughters, Catherine and Annabel; his brothers, Larry (Mary) and David; his sister, Peggie (Arthur); and a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard (Dick) and Margaret (Marge) Williams. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Dec. 1, at First Presbyterian Church in River Forest.
