Joan M. Pellegrini, 76, died on Oct. 17, 2011. An active member of Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church in Oak Park, the Berwyn United Neighborhood Gay and Lesbian Organization where she served as treasurer, Friends of the Berwyn Library where she also served as treasurer, Berwyn Library Afternoon Book Club, and the All Berwyn Committee.

Family and friends say she will be remembered for her generosity, spunky spirit, and delicious baked goods. She lived a life rich in service, they said, and gave to those less fortunate, dying penniless.

She is survived by her friends and her chosen family, Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at the church on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. A good old-fashioned Methodist potluck will follow, featuring some of Joan's favorite recipes.

Memorials to Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, 405 S. Euclid, Oak Park, IL 60302, to assist in her burial are greatly appreciated.

Joan was a rare person who worked and gave tirelessly and asked for nothing in return. She died "nearly penniless" by design, giving what she had for others who needed it more. She leaves a rich and faithful legacy. Joan was a person of grace and love.
