Prolonging the season is what the Fenwick football team is striving for right now, and a 29-20 win over St. Laurence in the Prep Bowl playoffs on Saturday kept the pigskin from being put away for the year.

The Friars (5-6) received a boost from two Dans on opposite sides of the ball. Linebacker Dan Walsh's 32-yard interception return on St. Laurence's opening drive put Fenwick on the board first. After the Vikings scored on a 1-yard run, Fenwick's Dan Mega countered the touchdown with a 65-yard TD scamper with 4:40 left in the first quarter.

Mega finished the day with 95 yards on 16 carries. He ran for one TD and caught another. Brien Rooney (5-of-7, 53 yards, 2 TDs) hit Mega for a 3-yard TD in the second quarter. Walsh hauled in two interceptions on the day for the Friars.

To start the second quarter, Rooney converted a 6-yard TD pass to Vincenzo Frangella, and the Friars eventually took a 26-14 lead into halftime.

In the final minutes of the game, Fenwick's Pat Mulhern booted a 30-yard field goal.

The Friars now travel back to Loyola Saturday (noon) in hopes of avenging a 31-7 loss suffered during the regular season. The Ramblers are coming off a 41-3 loss to Mt. Carmel in the Class 7A State playoffs.

The Prep Bowl championship will be played at Soldier Field on Nov. 25.
