Each year the Community Foundation solicits grant proposals from organizations serving the people of Oak Park and River Forest. To fund a variety of programs that serve the community well and meet the priorities of the foundation, the board and staff of the foundation closely review proposals and visit the organizations as part of a competitive application process.

Once the funding decisions are made, the foundation invites representatives of the grantee organizations and major donors to breakfast at the Oak Park Country Club for distribution of grant awards. On Thursday, Oct. 6, 27 organizations received grants totaling more than $49,000 for a variety of services. According to the foundation, this year's grantees serve the community in many ways, meeting urgent human needs, promoting physical and emotional wellbeing, improving educational and recreational opportunities for underserved populations and supporting diversity and cultural resources.
