The 3rd Annual Alumni Family Lunch, held on the mall of Oak Park and River Forest High School on Homecoming, Oct. 4, was a great success, bringing alumni from various classes together and helping raise money for enrichment program scholarships for current high school students. We were happy in particular to have the opportunity to celebrate with the classes of 1947, 1968, 1978, 1983, 1988, and 1998, all of which had reunion festivities this month.

We would like to thank our major event sponsor, the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation, whose contribution helped ensure that the day was a financial success for the alumni association. We also greatly appreciate the ongoing support of our other sponsors, Dr. John Perna, D.D.S., and state Senator Don Harmon.

The alumni association is particularly grateful to OPRF for providing space, facilities, equipment and staff to ensure the success of our event. Special thanks to the Buildings & Ground staff, as well as Kay Foran, and Cindy Milojevic. Michelene Piekarski and Food Service staff provided great tailgate-style food for returning alumni, and donated a portion of the proceeds back to the alumni association for our scholarship program. We couldn’t have welcomed families with kids to our event without the help of the Tau Gamma volunteers.

Since 2003, the OPRF Alumni Association has provided grants totaling more than $71,000 to 190 students who have attended spring and summer programs in areas as varied as marine biology, physics, and music camp. This has been possible only through the generosity of our members, contributors, and sponsors.

We invite all area alumni to contact the alumni association at 708-434-3281 to inquire about membership and our other events throughout the year. Plan to join us on Homecoming 2009 for our 4th Annual Alumni Family Party!
