Robert Gordon, 99, Avid tennis player, First Presbyterian Church member

Robert W. Gordon, a longtime resident of River Forest, died on Nov. 24, 2011 at home. A graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School and Beloit College in Beloit, Wis., he spent his entire working career in the energy business with Consolidated Coal Company/CONSOL Energy, Inc.

Mr. Gordon was an active member of the River Forest Tennis Club, having first become a family member in the 1950s and once served as club treasurer. He continued to play tennis until his 87th birthday. He was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of River Forest and served as treasurer of that organization as well. His loves included fishing, tennis, and his family.

Robert Gordon was the only son of Walter Gordon and Myrtie Juleson Gordon. He was the husband of the late Helen Mclnnis Gordon, Eleanor Domville Gordon, and Jane Carlson Gordon and is survived by his daughter, Carole Bodenstab; his son, Walter Gordon; his daughter-in-law Arlene Gordon; his four grandchildren, Paul and Carl Bodenstab and Elizabeth and Christopher Gordon; and one great-grandchild, Colin Bodenstab.

Relatives and friends are invited to share in the celebration of his long and full life at First Presbyterian Church of River Forest. Call the church for the time and date.

There will be a private interment at Mount Hope Cemetery in Chicago. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
