Meghan Barron represented the Fenwick swim team in the finals of the IHSA State Swimming Meet held at Evanston Township High School on Saturday.
The junior swam to an 11th place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.
Other Friars who swam well in the preliminaries on Friday, but were unable to qualify for the finals, included Alison Pavlik (200-yard freestyle, 2:01.63, 44th place), Erin Leary (100 butterfly, 1:01.55, 40th), Farren Rixter (100 backstroke, 1:03, 40th), and Kaitlin Kysiak (100 breaststroke, 1:09.67, 39th).
The Fenwick 200-yard medley relay team of Rixter, Keely Baldwin, Leary, and Barron nearly qualified for the finals by placing 14th with a time of 1:51.06 in the prelims.
Velasquez, Herner finish strong
The OPRF swim team wrapped up a difficult season with respectable finishes in the preliminaries of the IHSA State Meet on Friday.
Rachel Velasquez and Elizabeth Herner closed out their high school swimming careers at State. Velasquez finished in 32nd place overall in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.08. Herner placed 46th overall in the diving competition with a final score of 108.55.
