I want to thank you again for Kate Galo's excellent article on our Grace Lutheran Church as we are respending to the havoc of Katrina by adopting Grace Lutheran Church in Long Beach, Miss. as our "church partner."
I am saddened, however, that no mention was able to be made of three very prominent people in all of this:
1) Gloria Hillert, with whom this action was conceived. (We met at Menard's one early September day; she to purchase a new doorbell, and I a replacement part for my kitchen faucet. It has become known as "The Doorbell and Kitchen Faucet Story." Proof once again that God works in very mysterious ways and places.)
2) Jo-Ellyn Dorsey, fourth grade teacher at Grace School and prominently seen in the center of the photo, who organized the entire school supplies and personal hygiene kits for Long Beach school children (300 of each).
3) Hugh Kress, principal of Grace School and also in the photo. Without his support and leadership, none of this would have happened.
I hope these "omissions" will be printed to demonstrate their caring and gracious efforts, which is what Oak Park and River Forest communities are all about
