National Philanthropy Day, Nov. 15, is the special day set aside to recognize the contributions of philanthropists, big and small. I want to take this opportunity, on behalf of our board of community volunteers and the staff of the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation, to express our heartfelt appreciation for those who make the culture of philanthropy what it is today in Oak Park and River Forest.

We are fortunate to have a philanthropic energy in our community that is really powerful. We see the volunteer hours and dedication that go into making our community better. We are witnesses to the generosity of donors who ensure that Oak Park and River Forest can provide food, shelter, child development, recreation, senior services, mental and physical health resources, programs for the arts, environmental sustainability and a host of other programs and services that make our community an exemplary model. We are proud to partner with these generous donors to help fund such programs and services.

The Community Foundation serves as a permanent resource, focused on community sustainability, measurable outcomes and a better quality of life for everyone. Our work is possible only through the generosity and interest of community residents.

So while there is one national day of tribute to philanthropy, we know that every day of the year demonstrates the power of your generosity. Thank you for giving and thank you for giving us the opportunity to strengthen our community through your philanthropy.

Sophia Lloyd

Executive director, Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation
