Residential burglary

An unknown person entered a residence in the 600 block of North East Avenue, Oct. 21-24, and removed a 15-inch Magnavox LCD TV. Loss is estimated at $250.

Someone crawled through a basement window in the 700 block of South Harvey Avenue, Oct. 23-25, and removed 70 feet of tubing, a green Diamondback bicycle, a Samsonite suitcase and various yard tools. Estimated loss is $690.

An offender removed a 37-inch Sony Bravia flat-screen TV, a Dell desktop computer, a black Apple iPad and an iPod Touch from a residence in the 400 block of South Harvey Avenue, Oct. 28. Estimated loss is $3,200.

An unknown person entered a residence, Oct. 29, in the 400 block of North Ridgeland Avenue, possibly through an unlocked basement door. The offender removed a black and white Xbox game remote, three or four Xbox games, a black and grey HP Pavilion laptop and a black Dell charger. Estimated loss is $1,510.

Garage theft/theft from vehicle

Someone entered a garage in the 100 block of North Humphrey, Oct. 24-25, and broke the front driver's side window of a black Nissan Rogue. Once inside, the offender removed a Roadmax VMax383 GPS unit. Estimated loss is $260.

An unknown person used a pry tool to get into a garage in the 700 block of South Taylor, Oct. 24-25. The offender removed a brown Schwinn bicycle and gained entry to an unlocked 2008 Honda CR-V, removing a garage door opener. Loss is estimated at $330.

Someone entered a garage in the 1000 block of Forest, Oct. 25, and removed a blue men's 27-inch Trek 7100 hybrid bicycle that had a U-lock through the rear tire and around the seat pole. Loss is estimated at $600.

An unknown person gained entry to a 1985 Pontiac Grand Prix parked in the rear of a residence in the 1000 block of Ontario, Oct. 26. The offender removed a Kenwood in-dash TV/radio. Damage and loss is estimated at $250.

Someone gained entry to a vehicle parked in the rear driveway of a residence in the 700 block of South Lombard, Oct. 27-28. The offender removed a pair of black headphones, an Illinois I-Pass, a Blackberry phone charger and $10. Loss is estimated at $525.

A BMX-style bike with red pegs, a black and tan seat and a purple stem was removed from the garage of a residence in the 900 block of Highland, Oct. 28. Loss is estimated at $2,000.

Criminal damage to property

An unknown person scratched the passenger-side door of a silver 2007 Lexus RX300 SUV parked on the first level of the Holley Court parking structure in the 1100 block of Ontario, Oct. 21-22. Damage is estimated at $300.

A knife may have been used to slash four tires on a blue 1994 Jeep Cherokee SUV, Oct. 22, in the 400 block of South Taylor. Damage is estimated at $400.

Four tires on a 2008 Chevy Impala in the first block of Fillmore Street were punctured with a sharp object, Oct. 27-28. Damage is estimated at $400.

Someone broke the rear windshield of a grey 2004 Dodge Caravan minivan in the 300 block of South Ridgeland, Oct. 27-28. Damage is estimated at $400.

An unknown person broke the front and rear driver-side windows of a silver 2002 Infiniti L35 in the 300 block of Chicago Avenue, Oct. 27-28, possibly with a BB-type projectile. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

A facilities manager at Lutheran Child and Family Services reported, Oct. 24, that someone broke two panes of stained glass in the front windows of the building in the 7600 block of Madison. Estimated damage is $500.

Vehicle theft

An unlocked gold 2001 Dodge Caravan was removed from a driveway in the 1100 block of North Taylor, Oct. 26. Estimated loss is $10,000.

Theft/retail theft

An Apple iPod Touch was removed from a book bag belonging to an Oak Park girl, Oct. 26, in the 200 block of North Scoville. Estimated loss is $310.

Donald and Sheila Swope, of the 1500 block of North Leclaire Avenue in Chicago, were charged with felony retail theft after police said they stole $170 worth of candy from Jewel, Oct. 28. Donald Swope was also charged with obstructing an officer after he ran from the officer who stopped their car. They told police they were going to use the candy for Halloween.

An unknown person, caught on video at Lenscrafters in the 7300 block of Lake Street, took $3,000 worth of eyeglasses, Oct. 27.

Driving under the influence

A 27-year-old Chicago man was arrested Oct. 28 in the first block of North Austin Boulevard and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Anthony Q. Donaldson, of the 1200 block of South Kolin Avenue in Chicago, was also charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

A 38-year-old Cicero man was stopped Oct. 30 and arrested in the 600 block of Roosevelt Road for driving under the influence. Jorge S. Alejandro was processed and released after posting bond.

These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, Oct. 24-31, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged and cases have not yet been adjudicated.

So a 2001 unlocked Dodge Caravan was stolen and loss is estimated at $10,000? Only if there was $9,000 cash in a briefcase inside.
