Lost in the fury over the closure of the village's two off-leash dog parks is the coming transfer of park property from the Village of Oak Park to the park district.

Park District attorney Mark Burkland told park commissioners Thursday night that progress is being made on the eventual transfer of title of park property and structures currently legally owned by the village.

Burkland took part in a conference call with Assistant Village Attorney Jack Tibbetts and Village Clerk Sandra Sokol on Oct. 10. Calling it "a successful initial meeting," he said the three discussed the logistics of what park officials called "the potential transfer of properties" between the two governments.

The goal, Burkland said, is to craft a simplified process that stands apart from all the other issues being worked out between the park district and the village. Included in the negotiations is language reaffirming the final two years of funding from the village.

"We want to make the transfer of property issue distinct and exclusive," he said. "We'll have a very simple intergovernmental agreement that solidifies the money transfers and property transfers."

Burkland said the final transfer could be effected by Nov. 21.
