An unknown man in a white Ford Econoline van motioned for an 8-year-old girl to come into his vehicle the afternoon of Oct. 19 on the 1500 block of Forest Avenue in River Forest.
The girl ran into her home to tell her father, who then ran outside to see the van turning eastbound onto North Avenue from Forest. River Forest Police Sgt. Mike Thornley said the police don't have a description of the man, but they're investigating the incident.
"We're not sure what this was, but we always treat this as the attempted luring of a child," Thornley said.
Janel C. Luna, 30, was arrested the afternoon of Oct. 20 at Dominick's, 7501 North Ave. in River Forest, where she was charged with retail theft. She allegedly stole $45 worth of Red Bull and other soda.
A boy was seen leaving the back office of Ann Taylor Loft, 7331 Lake Street in Oak Park, and walking out of the store with another boy on the night of Oct. 20. When the employee later went to check her purse in the back office, she found $189 in cash to be missing. The boy was later spotted in the River Forest Town Center and taken into custody by police. He was released to his mother.
Tarik Page of Chicago, 34, was arrested the night of Oct. 22 near the intersection of Ashland and LeMoyne avenues in River Forest, where he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He allegedly had a crack pipe.
Deoder W. Brown of Chicago, 27, was arrested early the morning of Oct. 19 at the intersection of Madison Street and 15th Avenue in Maywood, and charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, as well as possession of cannabis and driving with a suspended license. He allegedly had 1.3 grams of a leafy green substance that field tested positive as marijuana.
A girl at OPRF was taken into custody for possession of cannabis the morning of Oct. 21 at OPRF High School, 201 N. Scoville Ave. in Oak Park. She was released to her parent.
Another juvenile was arrested mid-day on Oct. 22 at OPRF and was also charged with possession of cannabis.
Harold T. Hamilton of Oak Park, 19, was stopped and arrested the night of Oct. 20 on the first block of Ontario Street in Oak Park, where he was charged with possession of cannabis.
Joel Villagomez Arreguin of Evanston, 23, was arrested by River Forest police near the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Palmer Street in Chicago, where he was charged with DUI.
He had allegedly been driving as slow as 12 mph up Harlem in Oak Park, and crossed over the double yellow dividing line at one point, police said. He was pulled over on Harlem in Chicago, where he failed field sobriety tests, and allegedly then registered a 0.139 blood alcohol level.
Lee M. Brown of Chicago, 30, was arrested early the morning of Oct. 22 on the 7400 block of Lake Street in Oak Park, and charged with aggravated DUI.
A 16- to 20-year-old boy walked up to a man on the 600 block of North Harvey Avenue in Oak Park the morning of Oct. 17 and asked him for the time. When the man pulled out a cell phone from his pocket, the offender tried — but failed — to snatch the phone. He then fled.
A home on the 1000 block of South Lyman Avenue in Oak Park was broken into sometime Oct. 18 via a back door that was forced open. The home's interior was ransacked, and cash was stolen. The total loss was estimated at $2,100.
A TV, a laptop and jewelry were stolen sometime the day of Oct. 19 from a home on the 800 block of South Taylor Avenue in Oak Park.
A 24-pack of water, an apartment lease, and referee uniforms were stolen from an unlocked car parked on the 900 block of Lake Street in Oak Park early the morning of Oct. 23.
A Chicago boy was arrested the night of Oct. 20 on the 500 block of South Cuyler Avenue in Oak Park, where he was arrested for attempted robbery.
Two 13- to 14-year-old boys approached a woman from behind on the 700 block of South Austin Blvd. the afternoon of Oct. 21, snatching an iPhone from her hand but failing to remove her purse from her shoulder. They were last seen running southbound on Austin.
Joyce Lyons of Chicago, 52, was arrested the night of Oct. 20 at CVS, 345 Madison Street in Oak Park, where she was charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. She allegedly took about $20 in mixed candy. She allegedly also had a metal pipe.
Criminal damage to property
Someone defaced a vehicle parked on the 200 block of South Maple Avenue in Oak Park the night of Oct. 22 by spray painting star symbols on the hood and door of the car. Another car on the 400 block of South Home Avenue in Oak Park was defaced with black spray paint as well, going around the entire vehicle.
William L. Smiley of Forest Park, 30, was arrested just after midnight on Oct. 24 and charged with criminal damage to property at Jewel, 7036 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Oak Park; Salerno's Pizza, 7128 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Oak Park; and Bump City Auto Repair, 7050 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Oak Park. He was allegedly upset because the store he was hoping to make a purchase from was closed, according to police. In his frustration, he allegedly broke windows at three Oak Park businesses and at least one in Forest Park, police said. He was released from Oak Park custody after paying bond, and then turned over to Forest Park police.
A man ran up to a woman just after midnight on Oct. 24 on the 200 block of South Ridgeland Avenue in Oak Park and pulled down his pants, exposing his genitals. He then ran away northbound on Ridgeland. He was described as a Hispanic man, roughly 20 years old, 5-feet, 6-inches tall and 150 lbs. with black hair.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Oak Park and River Forest police departments from Oct. 18 to Oct. 25. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
