Schafer helps lead Huskies to tie for 32nd place
The OPRF tennis team closed out its season last week with a favorable finish at the IHSA State Meet. The Huskies finished tied for 32nd overall amongst a field of 103 teams that finished with at least a point.
OPRF's Samanatha Schafer made it as far as the fourth round of the consolation bracket on Friday before falling to West Suburban (Silver) Conference opponent Jackie Altansarnai of Hinsdale Central 6-3, 6-1.
Schafer fell to Glenbrook South's Caroline Ryba in the opening round 6-2, 6-2, but battled her way back through the consolation bracket by winning three consecutive matches. In the third round of the consolation bracket, Schafer edged Warren's Michelle Dutt 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 for the victory.
Also in the first round, OPRF's Tess Trinka went 2-2, grabbing wins in the consolation bracket before falling to Jessica Seadler of Sacred Heart-Griffin 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles action Emma Forman and Ann Ryan opened play by defeating Kendall Walker and Taylor Zilch of Hampshire 6-3, 6-2, but fell to Rosary 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 in the second round.
Lake Forest won the meet with a score of 40, while Hinsdale Central finished second with a score of 36.
OPRF went 10-8 in dual meets this season and closed out the West Suburban (Silver) Conference with a 2-4 mark. The team also had its best finish in six years at the Prospect Invitational, taking fifth in the 16-team tournament.
