Sports roundup for OPRF and Fenwick

OPRF boys golf

Alex Decorrevont finished tied for 40th at Class 3A State boys golf tournament held at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in Bloomington on Saturday. The junior shot a 39 on the front nine and a 44 on the back to close out the final round with an 83. Decorrevont's final score in the two-round tournament was 162.

Eric Cybulski shot a 79 in the final round to finish tied for 43rd. The senior closed out his high school playing career with nine pars and a birdie. His total score was 163.

Joe McKune finished 103rd after posting a total score of 179.

At the Mt. Carmel Sectional earlier in the week, which was held at Glenwoodie Golf Club in Glenwood, Decorrevont shot a 74 to lead the Huskies.

Cybulski and McKune both finished with 78s and advanced to state after competing in a six-man playoff for the last four spots.

The Huskies finished fourth as a team with a final score of 312. New Trier won the sectional with a 302. OPRF's cross-town rival Fenwick finished eighth overall and did not advance a player to state.

The Friars wrapped up the regular season with a 4-3 victory over De La Salle last week. David Tracy led Fenwick with two goals, while Albano Latifi and Joe Fahey each added one apiece.

Quinn Smith, Tom Semba and Justin Giacotto all had assists for the Friars, who also blanked St. Patrick 3-0 last week. Giacotto scored two goals in that win, while Austin Nelson added on.

Fenwick, the sixth seed in the Argo Sectional, began the Class 3A playoffs today with an 11-8-1 overall record.

Fenwick volleyball

Not even Senior Night could help lift the Friars past second-ranked Marist last week. Fenwick honored its upperclassmen but fell 19-25, 18-25. Kelly Brennan and Sarah Hunt each finished with four kills apiece for the Friars. Brennan also had seven digs.

Fenwick swimming

The Friars finished sixth at the Trevian Relays on Saturday. Paulina Kaminski finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.50 and fifth in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.59.

OPRF swimming

The Huskies finished 10th at the Trevian Relays on Saturday. The team also fell to Lyons Township 100-86 last week.

In the meet against LT, Alanna Dassoff won the 50 freestyle in 25.92 seconds, and Kimmy Stefanik took first in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.90.
