The OPRF boys cross-country team finished second at the West Suburban (Silver) Conference Meet on Saturday, behind rival York.
The Huskies finished with 44 points, while the Dukes scored 35 with the help of Jack Driggs' first place finish in 14:37.2. OPRF's Malachy Schrobilgen wasn't too far behind Driggs. The junior finished the 3-mile course second with a time of 14:52.
Eunhwan Yoo finished seventh overall (15:29.2) for the Huskies, while Jack Stapleton placed 10th (15:32.2), Sam Fourman 12th (15:34) and Brendan Donley 13th (15:36.7).
"There are a couple things — like proper hydration and diet — that we can work on in the next two weeks to avoid any physical breakdowns in the final stretch of the race," said OPRF head coach Jose Sosa. "The depth of our team has been our strength this season, and it was very evident in this meet. Euhnwam Yoo and Brendan Donley stepped up big time, and Malachy Schrobilgen ran another great and controlled race to secure our second place finish."
OPRF was leading the race up until about 400 meters to the finish line when runners began to drop back.
"We had five runners in front of York's No. 5 man, and we let it get away from us," said Sosa. "We will have to work on protecting our spot, and finding that last extra gear in the final sprint to the finish line."
The Huskies, who are now 2-1 against York this season, begin their quest for the program's first state title this Saturday when they host their own regional at Schiller Woods.
