The OPRF Hockey Club went 1-1 last week with a victory over New Trier Blue followed by a 3-1 loss to Bartlett.

In the victory over New Trier Blue, Huskies forward Evan Vondrasek scored at 12:19 in the second period. Sophomore Steven Weik then struck at 7:28 to close out the period. The Huskies scored again in the third on a power-play goal by sophomore Joe Herner at 4:37.

New Trier snagged their only goal of the game off a power-play with 1:36 left in the game. New Trier pulled its goalie and John Michiels closed out the scoring for the Huskies with an empty-net goal with only seconds left in the game.

OPRF goalie Tanner Houston stopped 21 of 22 shots on goal.

With senior center Phillip O’Connor out with a knee injury the Huskies were no match against Bartlett on Sunday night. Their only goal came midway through the third period by Weik at 8:34 to tie the game at one apiece. Bartlett scored two more goals in the third to seal the victory.

The Huskies face-off against Hinsdale South on Saturday at The Darien Sportplex and Sunday against Marist at the Arctic Ice Arena in Orland Park.

Huskies down York

The OPRF swim team posted a win last week over York. The Huskies outswam the Dukes 120-64.

OPRF’s Olivia Japlon took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.17.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Lori Mansfield, Paige Gruber, Jenna Kirk, and Kimmy Stefanik won with a time of 2:02.34.

Mansfield also took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.17) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.55).

The Huskies didn’t fare so well at the Trevian Relays on Saturday. The team finished 11th with 37 points.

Ryan leads Fenwick swimming

Kelly Ryan led the Fenwick swim team to a second-place finish at the Stevenson Invitational on Saturday.

Ryan won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.13. Ryan also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.48.

The Friars garnered a total score of 380, while Stevenson took first with 456.

Fenwick has some time off to rest before competing in the Metro Catholic Aquatics Conference Meet on Oct. 28th at Waubonsie Valley.

Brander helps Blazers to second

The Trinity volleyball team finished second at the Rosary Invitational on Saturday.

Trinity’s Caroline Brander posted impressive stats for the tournament. The junior tallied 23 kills, seven aces, 20 digs, and 29 blocks.

Senior Amanda Macchione finished with 14 kills, while senior Kelly Purl, junior Ciera Hester-Smith, and sophomore Vivi Castellanos, each had six kills apiece.

Directing the offense was senior Katy Osowiec who totaled 33 assists for the tournament.

The Blazers closed out regular-season play with a 25-7, 25-13 win over Seton Academy last week. Trinity finished with a record of 6-6 in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference.
