What an effort by the scouts

Are green beans vegetables or beans? Is sauerkraut a condiment or a vegetable? And where do I put these seasoned seaweed strips?

Dozens of girls posed stumpers like these all day Saturday, Sept. 28, as they gathered and sorted food for their annual tri-village Girl Scout Food Drive. Collecting door to door, the girls of Service Unit 409 delivered nearly 11,000 pounds of food to the Oak Park-River Forest Food Pantry. Some folks donated checks, making it possible for us to purchase hundreds of more pounds of food!

If you emptied your own pantry shelf to stock ours — thank you! If you are a parent who helped your girls put Food Drive signs on 15,000 doorsteps or picked up food or delivered it to the pantry — thank you! If you wrote a check to help meet the need — thank you! If you're a girl scout who helped — you made a difference!

We especially want to thank Lisa Files, the extraordinary woman who makes it all happen. Lisa inspires hundreds of girls (and us!) with her dedication.

On behalf of our clients, we thank everyone for this amazing community effort.
