Dorothy Ross, 85, taught in Chicago Public Schools for 25 years
Dorothy L. Ross (nee Lally), 85, of Oak Park passed away Dec. 30, 2004 at her home. She was born in Chicago on Aug. 15, 1919 to Martin and Della Lally. She was a graduate of Amundsen High School and Chicago Teachers College, receiving her B.A. in Education, and Northern Illinois University, where she received her Masters in Education.
Mrs. Ross taught in the Chicago Public Schools for 25 years, spending 24 of those years at Lloyd School. During her tenure at Lloyd, she received the school’s award for Teacher of the Year. She retired in 1985. Mrs. Ross loved to produce school pageants, create artwork, make costumes, choreograph dancing, and play piano.
In her spare time, Mrs. Ross enjoyed delving further into the arts. She was an avid painter, sculptor, musician and bunka stitcher. Friends and family remember her as a dynamic personality who was always willing to lend a hand. Mrs. Ross used her extraordinary energy to do good for her friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, and her sister, Ann Lally.
She is survived by her children, John (fiancee Anne Kleeboc), George (Lisa Wilson), Michael (Kathleen), Terrence (Roberta), Timothy, Della, Eileen, and Anne; her grandchildren, Brian and Sarah; her siblings, Rita (Carl) Luft, Rosella (the late Ronald) Ernst, Joan (Robert) Musker, Catherine (Edward) Rice, and Edward (the late Cheryl) Lally.
Visitation was held Jan. 2 at Drechsler, Brown, & Williams Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 3 at Ascension Church, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Harold Huebner, 86, attorney, served in WWII, American Legion member
Harold C. Huebner, 86, a longtime resident of Oak Park, died on Dec. 30, 2004 at Loyola University Medical Center. He was born on Aug. 20, 1918 in St. Louis, Mo. to Harold Sr. and Mary Huebner. Mr. Huebner was a gradute of St. Francis Elementary and New Trier High School in Wilmette, where he was raised. He received his undergraduate degreee from Marquette University and a law degree from DePaul.
Mr. Huebner was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. He worked professionally as an attorney until retiring in 1990. Mr. Huebner was a member of the American Legion Post #133 and a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (nee Roney), his children, Margaret, Peter (Laura Dowdle), James (Jenny), and Mary (Mark) Connelly; his grandchildren, Michael, Marion, Cody, Katie, Danny and Patrick; and his sister, Helen (Joe) Fetsch.
Visitation was held Jan. 2 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 3 at St. Giles Church, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials to Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Chicago, 4709 Golf Road, Suite 1015, Skokie 60076 are appreciated.
Bernadette Weldon, 49, Children’s Memorial Hospital Guild volunteer
Bernadette “Bernie” Weldon, 49, formerly of River Forest, died Dec. 27, 2004 at her Palm Harbor, Fla. vacation home.
Originally from the Chicago neighborhood of Beverly, Mrs. Weldon was a graduate of Mother McAuley High School. She worked in the retail industry following her graduation from St. Norbert College in Wisconsin and left work to raise her three children, Matthew, Treacy, and Marirose.
Mrs. Weldon dedicated her life to helping others through her work as a volunteer. She was the former president of Children’s Memorial Guild fundraising arm based in River Forest for Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. A resident of Oak Brook for the last few years, she was active in the Oak Brook Women’s Club and several other church events, as well as local and national charities. Mrs. Weldon was a strong participant in her children’s schools, including Willard School in River Forest, Brook Forest School in Oak Brook, and Hinsdale Central High School.
“She was an exceptionally generous woman who wanted other people’s lives to be as fortuante as hers. Her nature was very giving and compassionate,” said her sister-in-law, Michele, who added she would never forget her positive nature and fun-loving spirit.
“Bernadette was able to find the joy and levity in almost any situation; her goodness was contagious,” she said.
Bernie Weldon was the wife of Paul Weldon, chief executive officer and owner of Van Bergen & Greener, Inc. an automotive parts manufacturing company, specializing in starter drives, with a plant based in Maywood. During her 22-year marriage Mrs. Weldon traveled globally in support of and representing Van Bergen & Greener and trade organizations in the automotive industry.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; her children, Matthew, Treacy, and Marirose; her mother, Patricia Treacy; her siblings, William (Deborah) Treacy, Barbara Treacy, Rosemary Treacy, Mary Pat (Jeff) Suter, Sharon (Larry) Carroll; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, William Treacy, and her sister, Margaret.
Visitation was held Jan. 2, 2004 at Elliston Funeral Home in Hinsdale. Funeral Services were held the following day at Ascension of Lord Church in Oak Brook, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Marien E. Totzke, 56, volunteer at West Suburban Hospital
Marien E. Totzke, 56, of Oak Park, died Dec. 27, 2004 at The Pavillion of Forest Park. Born in Pittsburgh, Penn. to Samuel McFetridge and Gloria Flower, Ms. Ware was a graduate of St. Domitilla Elementary School and Proviso West High School. She spent her time helping others as a volunteer at West Suburban Hospital and various other organizations within the community.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenninfer (Verlon) Ware; her grandchildren, Christalle, Verlon, and Lee Ware; and her loving companion of 30 years, Harold Sebastian. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Flowers, and her granddaughter, Christina Ware.
“She will always be in our hearts,” her family wrote, “and we will always love her.”
Visitation and funeral services were held Dec. 31, 2004 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
