Philip Wagreich, 71, died on Jan. 1, 2013. He was professor emeritus at the University of Illinois Chicago and a nationally prominent figure in mathematics and math education.
Mr. Wagreich is survived by his wife, Lorraine Owles; his children, Heidi, Ian (Laura), Amy, and Alexander; his grandchildren, Mercedes and Felicia Koch and Hayley and Isaac Wagreich; his brother, Larry (Bette); his brother-in-law, Jerry (Kate) Miliszkiewicz; his sister-in-law Madeleine McDonald; and an aunt, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Beatrice Wagreich.
A memorial celebration of his life will take place in the near future. Memorials to West Suburban PADS, Sarah's Inn, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, or the Infant Welfare Society's Children's Clinic of Oak Park-River Forest would be appreciated.
Phil's family, friends and colleagues will celebrate his life on Sunday, Feb. 10 in the early afternoon at the Nineteenth Century Club in Oak Park. Please save the date. Details will follow shortly.
