Louise M. Helwig (nee Stanke), 82, a lifelong resident of Oak Park and River Forest died on Jan. 7, 2013 at the Bethesda Home in Chicago. Born on April 23, 1930 in Oak Park to the late Albert C. and Elsie (nee Reich) Stanke, she was raised in River Forest and graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1947.

She married Richard K. Helwig on May 22, 1954 in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Oak Park. Before her retirement she worked for the Iron Workers Union Local 473. A member of First Baptist Church for over 65 years, she volunteered and served in many capacities.

Mrs. Helwig was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1972. She is survived by her children, Curtis (Janet) Helwig of River Forest, Cheryl (Dennis) Verville of River Forest, Scott (Miriam) Helwig and Spencer Helwig; and her grandchildren Ian and Quinn Carlson, Sarah and Claire Helwig, and Chelsea Verville.

Visitation will take place on Jan. 14 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., Oak Park. The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Jan. 15 at First Baptist Church of Oak Park, 820 Ontario, Oak Park, followed by interment Glen Oak Cemetery.
