River Forest police finally nabbed an alleged Latin King gang member from Melrose Park who had been on the department's radar for almost a month after eluding police by using phony blue and red flashing cab lights in this 2001 BMW and a mechanical device that covered his back license plate.

Melrose Park officers arrested Joseph Calamia, 37, of the 1300 block of 12th Ave. Dec. 27 and turned him over to River Forest for charges.

On Dec. 10, River Forest police had tried to assist a neighboring department in a traffic stop of Calamia, who had been "the subject of prior police intelligence notifications," according to a River Forest Police press release.

While fleeing marked River Forest squad cars, Calamia lowered a mechanical shield over his rear license plate and activated flashing lights inside his car to appear to be a police officer, police said. Because of weather conditions and Calamia's allegedly reckless driving, River Forest Police called off the chase when he exited River Forest.

River Forest police notified the Melrose Park department, and he was arrested in the alley behind his residence later in the month. Police said he fought with the arresting officer.

Calamia had outstanding no-bond criminal warrants for assault and drug possession. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved Class 3 Felony aggravated fleeing charges against Calamia. He was also charged with 11 driving violations in addition to being processed on the outstanding no-bond arrest warrants. The BMW was seized and impounded. Calamia is being held in Cook County Jail.

Ray- YOUR intolerance.. YOUR own fantasies...etc. It's fun to listen to aging baby boomers whine when they no longer understand the world around them or how it works. Does talking down to people usually work for you? Are there are a lot of women of both sexes in Oak Park? Here's a fact for you: Todd Vandermyde worked as a lobbyist for the Intl. Union of Operating Engineers local 150 in Countryside. His boss was convicted by US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald in 2010. You got sold out. Duh.

@ Doogan - what the hell are you talking about? You state your own fantasies as if they are facts that you can prove.

Ray- how much money have you sent to NRA in your lifetime? NRA counts on people who don't read their bills. Rep. Brandon Phelps HB183 carry bill is over 100 pgs, did you read it? That's right, Todd Vandermyde is a personal friend of yours, he would never sell you out the way he betrayed Otis McDonald & everyone in Chicago. Duty to Inform will never affect you, because you're white and live in a "good neighborhood." If a few blacks get set up and killed by police with DTI, who cares, right?

@ Doogan your intolerance is showing again! Do you have your DTI anti NRA rant saved as a macro? Doing that would save you countless key strokes each year.

Wow, armed citizens only have to forfeit their right to remain silent & their right to be treated as innocent until proven guilty if they are asked by a cop? Contact Chris Cox & Chuck Cunningham at NRA and tell them to give Vandermyde a raise. Then ask them about Vandermyde's association with William Dugan at the Intl. Union of Operating Engineers local 150 in Countryside. The U.S. Attorney thought it was worth looking into: http://www.fbi.gov/chicago/press-releases/2010/cg101410.htm

Funny - I thought we had Duty to Disclose (if asked), not Duty To Inform (without being asked). And I didn't know that the FCCA overrode the Illinois Vehicle Code or the Illinois Criminal Code, both of which have a lot more applicability about situations like this than the carry bill.

joe- try out your comedy routine in Cook Co. jail after you get arrested for DTI. It's a Class B misdemeanor (6 mo.) for 1st offense, Class A (1 year!) for 2nd offense. Hardy har har. ALL violations of the carry bill are criminal, including the 100s of off limits areas. But that will never happen to you Baby Boomers, right? Contact Chris Cox at NRA & tell him what a joke this is: ccox@nrahq.org or Chuck Cunningham ccunningham@nrahq.org Let us know what they have to say about their boy.

Thanks to NRA lobbyist Todd Vandermyde writing Duty to Inform w/ criminal penalties into Phelps HB183 carry bill, this crook can impersonate a cop to pull over women and rape them. DTI does not require "officers" to be in uniform when questioning armed citizens. John Gacy & Ted Bundy both agree, DTI rules for serial killers and police impersonators! Now someone explain why Chris Cox & Chuck Cunningham at NRA actually pay money to Vandermyde so citizens can be raped and killed with DTI?

LOVE the waterboard idea. A nice public waterboarding would go a long way. Perhaps set up a stage on the fields over at Washington & 1st Avenue.

I think he should be water boarded...however, I would like to know where I can buy that license plate cover, so I can allude the heinous Chicago & RF red light cameras.

A mechanical device to lower and cover his plates? Is this guy driving the Batmobile? Glad they got him. Lock his ass up.
