Rev. Gery W. Stefanski, 58, died at home on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011. Born in Chicago, he attended St. Casimir Catholic School, Quigley South Preparatory Seminary, Niles College of Loyola University, and from the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. John Cardinal Cody ordained Father Stefanski on May 9, 1979.
From 1979 to 1997, he served as associate pastor at a number of archdiocesan parishes, including St. Mary in Evanston, St. Mary Star of the Sea in Chicago, St. Luke in River Forest, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Chicago. Beginning in 1984, he served as associate director of the Archdiocesan Health Program for Priests and Religious, was an adjunct professor at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, and, for a time, served as chaplain at Saint Francis Hospital/Resurrection Health Care in Evanston.
Gery Stefanski is survived by his mother, Jane, and his brother, Gregory.
Visitation was held on Dec. 29 at Szykowny Funeral Home in Chicago. Most Rev. George J. Rassas, auxiliary bishop of Chicago, was the main celebrant at a funeral Mass on Dec. 30, at St. Pancratius Church in Chicago. Interment was private.
