Dorothy F. Bergl, 92, Modern dancer, St. Giles Brownie leader

Dorothy F. Bergl (nee Michalek), 92, of Glendale Heights and a former longtime resident of Oak Park, died on Dec. 21, 2011 at Lexington Healthcare in Lombard. Born in Cicero on Feb. 25, 1919 to Joseph and Frances Michalek, she was a graduate of Morton High School, and in her 20s, was employed by Western Electric. She also worked in the AV Department at Willowbrook High School.

As a young girl, she performed modern dance professionally. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a Brownie leader at St. Giles in Oak Park and a Eucharistic minister at St. Isadore Church in Bloomingdale.

Dorothy Bergl is survived by her children, Patricia (Don) Nense, Kathleen (Michael) Kerchenfaut, Paul (Anna Marie), and Nancy (William) Montana; her grandchildren, Julie (Mike) Griffin, Lawrence (Alanna) Nensel, Jim Kerchenfaut, Paul (Kate), Vincent Bergl, and Calla Montana; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J., and her brother, Robert (the late Georgia) Michalek.

Visitation was held on Dec. 27 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Giles Church, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
